A letter bomb exploded Thursday at the office of the International Monetary Fund in Paris. The explosive arrived by mail, injuring a female employee. The explosive was intended for the office's director, Jeffrey Franks.

The city's terrorism unit is investigating the incident. Police confirmed that the IMF office director had received threats and that the explosive appeared to be home-made.

CBC reports:

"The letter, which had arrived by mail, exploded as it was opened by a secretary at the institution's office in an upscale part of Paris. The secretary, whose hearing was also affected, was receiving treatment but her injuries were not life-threatening, Paris police chief Michel Cadot told reporters."
