Conservatism as we know it has been dying a slow death for a long time. Progressive hegemony, specifically of the woke variety, began to dominate in Canada about six years ago. Our ruling class and the infrastructure that goes with it just decided to go all in on the new zeitgeist and, unlike in other countries, there wasn’t much reactionary pushback.

Despite it all, Jason Kenney will likely survive not only his first term as premier of Alberta, but a second term. It sounds far-fetched to a lot of people who have given Kenney a failing grade on his handling of the pandemic, but we have to remember what kind of province Alberta was under the NDP. Come the next election, when this pandemic is long over, Albertans will remember what poor shape their province was in before the pandemic was even a reality..

There are those who think suicide rates are the only indication of rising depression and anxiety rates in our society. Because suicide rates have not jumped as considerably as expected during the ongoing pandemic, we are being told that less harm has been done by the lockdowns than the crazy, right-wing fearmongers were predicting.

I would prefer to keep all conservatives united, but that simply is not possible under Premier Kenney’s failed leadership. The lifeblood of any political party is its base membership, its volunteers, and its donors. Every day, more and more of these folks are leaving the UCP. People are voting with their feet. The longer the Premier pretends to ignore it, the more divided the conservative movement becomes.

Jason Kenney looks to be finished as the leader of the UCP. I won’t bother going into the details as I assume if you read Poletical you’re probably well informed of his deficits, mistakes and ongoing struggles inside the caucus and party. Political leaders simply don’t recover from this level of degradation and his leadership has been branded a failure for too long, and by too many to launch some sort of 7th inning comeback strategy. Jason Kenney should be planning an exit strategy before the electorate do it for him.

China is a global threat beyond what many can currently comprehend. When it's too late, they will finally strike. China has hacked several top level institutions across several countries and sent countless billions in money to operatives and assets in free, democratic countries around the world. Using their money to buy influence among journalists, politicians and corporations, China is using propaganda to turn the tides of global power. Not all of the money used to fund their tactics come from China alone.

Without healthy people, we can't have a healthy workforce. Without a healthy workforce, we can't have a healthy economy. On the flip side, we can't have good health without a good economy. Without a job to pay rent, to buy food, or to keep our sanity intact, what would happen to our overall health? The fact of the matter is, the pandemic is killing people who are not in the workforce and who are over the age of 80.
